When it comes to cats, people have their preferences. Some like to own hairless and cute fluffy ones while others choose to have small or bigger breeds. Talking of large breeds in specific, if you are fond of them, then here are seven amazing and largest cats in the world.
There are already a lot of domestic cats that we know nowadays, and there are still a lot of incoming new breeds that are created by cat breeders. But all of these breeds even the domestic cat breeds that we adore at our homes all descended historically from the Wildcats in Africa.
And over time, the cats spread all throughout the different corners of the globe and tried to establish different breed subcategories and sections. If we merely look at it, all different cat breeds seemed to look distinct from each other, but they all descended from the same root. All different cat types and breeds have their very own traits that are unique from each other and different personality.
These differences are the cat’s signature of what breed they are. One of the traits that I am talking about is the size and build. A lot of people had been wondering if which among the domestic cat breeds are considered as the feline giants or what we call the biggest domestic cats that can be kept as pets today.
You don’t need to worry because we did the research for you. We have made a list of seven largest cats in the world. So if you are looking for a pet cat that is big, then you can go through our list.
1- Savannah Cat
The first cat breed on the list is no other than the Savannah cat. This cat breed is even recognized as the biggest domestic cat breed in the worlds. However, there is a debate about Savannah cats being domestic or not because a Savannah is a cross breed between a Siamese and a Serval. A Serval is a wild cat in Africa.
Savannah cats are not yet recognized by The Governing Council of the Cat Fancy or the GCCF. In the United States of America, a Savannah is already recognized as an official cat breed. If you are considering to own a Savannah, then you should also consider the other factors that are needed if you will have this kind of breed at home.
Because according to the RSPCA, the nature of Savannah cats are still a little bit wild and they prefer roaming in large places, and they still have this hunting life. Their effect on the United Kingdom’s wildlife is still unsure until now. The size of a Savannah cats depends on how far is the Serval of its blood. But if you look at it, a Savannah cat can be as heavy as 30 lb and can grow up to the size of a small dog.
2- Maine Coon
Maine Coon is a lot different from Savannah. Savannah cats have wild cats as their recent ancestors, but Maine Coons does not. Maine Coons is very friendly and personable. There is one big Maine Coon in Ryhill in West Yorkshire named Ludo. Ludo was known as the cat who continues to grow.
He is owned by Matthew Gill and Kelsey Gill, and the couple treats Ludo as their child. Maine Coons are considered as the gentle giants of the feline world. They can weigh about 10 lbs to 15 lbs for females while male Maine Coon can weigh from 15 lbs to 25 lbs. Maine Coons are also very tall and very long.
One very rare breed in the United Kingdom is a Chausie. Other people in the United Kingdom even went to France just to look for someone who can sell Chausie kittens for them. Chausie cats that are bred in the United Kingdom are somewhat high in price because it is also high in demand.
Chausie cats are very attractive and look very much similar from the cats that they descended from. Chausie cats are already in the fourth generation– meaning, they are already removed from their wildlife ancestors. If this is the case, Chausie cats are already a little bit distant from wild cats and are now suitable to be a domestic cat. A Chausie cat can weigh from 8 lbs to 15 lbs while male Chausie cats can weigh up to 22 lbs.
Ragdoll is a large cat, its hair is quite long, and they are very calm, kind and sweet domestic cats. They are quite sedentary, but they will be a perfect companion to people who prefer to be quiet. Because peaceful people have a lot of time dedicated to being affectionate with their feline friend. A female Ragdoll can weigh from 10 lbs to 15 lbs, while male Ragdoll can weigh from 15 lbs to 20 lbs.
A Ragamuffin cat is another cat breed that is related to a Ragdoll. They both share a lot of common traits. They have a muscle structure that is dense, and their build is strong. However, this body would fully develop after four or five years. A Ragamuffin would not reach its adult weight until it turns three years old. A Ragamuffin’s adult weight is around 10 lbs to 15 lbs if it is a female and 20 lbs for a male.
6- Norwegian Forest Cat
A Norwegian Forest Cat is a breed from Norway known for its long hair. This cat breed can fight back any cold or bad climate. If you simply looked at a Norwegian Forest Cat, you will mistake it as a Maine Coon. They are both very popular not only in Norway but also in the Scandinavian countries. The Norwegian Forest Cat is very long, but Maine Coon is longer and bigger. A Norwegian Forest Cat can grow its weight to up to 15 lb for females and 20 lbs for males.
The Siberian cat is proudly from Russia. This cat breed is the one that is perfect to those who have allergies. The reason behind this is that they have less of the Fel D1 protein that is produced by their body. This Fel D1 is a very common allergenic that triggers people. The Siberian cat is referred to be chunkily built and sturdy. Females are averagely weighing from 8 lbs to 12 lbs and males, on the other hand, are averagely weighing around 17 pounds or more.
